Jan Smit is not only known as a singer and entertainer, he has also been chairman of FC Volendam for a year now. And there the pressure is on, as everyone in the village has an opinion about the football club and how it should be run. Jan is busy with it. The first gray hairs appeared last year. Yet Jan is not afraid for his health. Referring to his earlier burnout, he says in the Leeuwarder Courant: “Since I fell over, I only perform 20% of what I did. It feels like I’m always on holiday, there is so much free time. The club takes up a lot of time, but the new management is now taking many of my challenges off my hands.”

Jan also says that he would have liked to become a professional footballer, but at the age of fifteen his singing career came into play. “I could play decent football, but I wasn’t good enough. You can easily ignore it there.”
