Investigation program FAROEK pays attention to Maastricht robbery

Maastricht – To find the people responsible for a brutal street robbery, the police worked together with Belgian crime journalist Faroek Özgünes. The recorded item will go ‘live’ on the Het Laatste Nieuws website this Sunday.

On Monday, July 31, a 76-year-old man became the victim of a very brutal robbery in broad daylight on Bourgognestraat in Maastricht. The unsuspecting man arrives by train at the station in Maastricht around 3:15 PM that Monday afternoon. Almost at the same time, two people (the suspects) also arrive in Maastricht, by train from Liège, Belgium. They spot their victim, the elderly man, and follow him as he leaves the station. A little further on, on Bourgognestraat, the man is then violently robbed of his watch by the two. The victim also falls hard.

The suspects are well captured on surveillance cameras. These images were released last year in the form of a SpeurMee video. This video has been posted on the Limburg Police website and social media channels. Watch it again here.

The investigation team believes that the suspects may come from Belgium. That is why it was decided to collaborate with the Belgian crime journalist Faroek Özgünes. The item that he and his team created about this research can be viewed here from next Sunday morning.
