De Schiphorst – The police and the Public Prosecution Service recently reopened the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Cas Steenbergen. The parents and those directly involved have already been informed about this. The investigation will be reopened based on new information.
Cas was seriously injured on the night of July 16 to 17, 2022, when he cycled from the party grounds at CH De Wolden in Veeningen to his home in De Schiphorst. Cas’ parents found him in the morning and at that time he was no longer conscious. On August 15, 2022, the then 23-year-old Cas died.
The police started an investigation on July 17 into what may have happened to Cas. Until now, as the police and the Public Prosecution Service, we assumed that there was a fatal accident, somewhere between the party site and his house in De Schiphorst. However, it is still unclear what exactly happened to Cas. We hope that based on this new information and additional research we can clarify what could have been the cause of Cas’ serious injury.
That additional research is in full swing. We have now spoken to possible witnesses and people involved and we are looking again at the results of the previous investigation. Together with the new information, this should lead to a better timeline and reconstruction of what may have happened to Cas. We hope to be able to share more information from the research in the short term.
