Illegal poker tournament broken up in Vlissingen

Vlissingen – Last night, after receiving information, the police rolled up an illegal poker tournament in a house on Vincent van Goghlaan. The alleged organizer, a 41-year-old man from Vlissingen, and the 26-year-old resident were arrested in connection with the Gambling Act.

The police recently received information that so-called cash games are organized several times a week during the night hours in a house on Vincent van Goghlaan. That is a variant of poker where the chips are not worth points but money. Pursuant to the Gambling Act, playing poker for money in the Netherlands is only allowed in a Holland Casino.

The police raided the building last night, Monday, February 27, 2023, at 00:20 am. Eleven people were present. There was a poker table with cards and chips of different values. It was clear from the way the things were laid that a game was being played at the moment of entry. The resident and the alleged organizer have been arrested. $4,000 in cash was seized.
