Rijnmond spoke to 24-year-old Aziz (fictitious name) who was caught on the port site, on location in the container port of Rotterdam. He explains exactly how evisceration is done: ‘I am taken to a place in the harbor like here and climb over the fence. When I am on site, I receive a message with a photo of where I should be and which container it is. The containers are always on the ground floor. This is done by people who work in the port. I open the container with bolt cutters. In some containers it is hidden in the ceiling. You have to destroy that to get the drugs.’

He is nervous at such a moment, he tells RTV Rijnmond: ‘You feel the adrenaline in your body and don’t think about being arrested. I am actually more alert. We usually go onto the site with two, maximum four boys. I don’t know about other boys.”
That was successful twice and he was caught the third time: ‘Last spring they saw me on camera images. I went running and they unleashed dogs on us. They found my scent and then I was caught, but I had no drugs with me. I sat for two weeks and was then allowed to go outside. I’m still waiting for my trial. If I am punished, then I have to sit down.’
Panic
‘I was not recruited, but I contacted people from this world myself to do this, because I was in debt. I followed a technical course and obtained my MBO diploma. Working in this sector did not appeal to me. I earned 1900 a month. That’s not enough to buy a car and a house. I stopped doing that and started doing freelance work.’
Wrong
Aziz explains where things went wrong: ‘There came a time when I no longer had a purpose in my life. I had no permanent job and my fixed costs continued. I no longer had an overview. That’s why I stopped paying fines and insurance. My debts kept increasing. Lashing out seemed like the best option to me. I wanted to make money quickly. Just take a few swipes to pay for everything.’
