Horner does not see Verstappen following Alonso's example: 'Don't think he will still be driving in Formula 1'

Christian Horner does not expect Max Verstappen to remain active in Formula 1 as long as Fernando Alonso. The team boss of Red Bull Racing currently sees an enormous passion for racing in the two-time world champion, but Horner does not dare to say whether that passion will still be there in a few years. Verstappen will have to find out for himself, he thinks.

Verstappen is only 25 years old and already has two world titles under his belt. Connoisseurs consider the Red Bull driver capable of breaking the record of seven world titles held by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, but whether it will ever come to that is still very much the question. The Dutchman himself said at an earlier stage that he does not necessarily aspire to a long career in Formula 1 and may even want to stop after his current contract with Red Bull has expired.

Bee Sky Sports Horner also speaks out about the possible length of his pupil’s career. Max is his own boss. He has a very clear opinion about what he wants to do in his life.” “I don’t see him, like Alonso, still racing at the age of 41. At least not in Formula 1.’

Passion for racing is still undiminished

For the time being, however, Horner does not see him turning his back on racing just yet. The love for racing is still as great as ever. “He has a huge passion for racing. If he’s not racing on the track, he’s driving in the virtual world. He drives GT cars for fun’; Horner emphasises. “As long as he keeps that passion for racing, he will continue. But we don’t know how long that passion will last. That is something personal and he will have to find out for himself.
