Bleiswijk – The police arrested a flight-risk Greek in a house in Bleiswijk on Friday afternoon, March 17. The 37-year-old man is a suspect in a large-scale drug investigation in Romania, investigating his involvement in the import of 1500 kg of heroin. The Fugitive Active Search Team tracked down the man. Because the suspect is possibly a firearms hazard, the Special Interventions Service (DSI) has made the arrest.
The man was previously surrendered from the Netherlands to Romania in 2021 and was temporarily released under house arrest pending his trial. He managed to flee Romania and fled back to the Netherlands. Last week, FASTNL received information from the Dutch liaison officer in Bucharest that the man was in the Netherlands and requested FASTNL from the National Unit to investigate. In collaboration with FAST Romania, FASTNL took up the investigation, which led to the recognition of the man in a house in Bleiswijk where he was staying. This enabled him to be arrested by the DSI shortly after his regained freedom. The suspect is brought before the surrender chamber of the court in Amsterdam, after which the latter decides on his surrender.
