Government starts campaign about Nutri-Score

The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) has started the public campaign “Look, compare & choose”. This campaign helps people to choose products with a better composition based on the Nutri-Score when shopping.

Also on house brands

Since January 1, manufacturers can choose to use Nutri-Score. In that case, they must put a Nutri-Score on all products of their brand. Almost all supermarkets have now started using Nutri-Score on their own brands. Think of Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Lidl, Aldi, Plus/Coop, Boon Food Group, Dekamarkt, Dirk, Hoogvliet, Nettorama/Boni, Poiesz, Spar and Vomar.

Frequently Asked Questions

A good explanation of how to use Nutri-Score when shopping is important. That is why the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has started the public campaign “Look, compare & choose”. The campaign can be seen on TV, online, in newspapers and magazines. There is also a special consumer website: www.nutriscore.nl. This contains explanations and videos on how people can use the Nutri-Score to make healthier choices. Frequently asked questions are also answered.

‘Nutri-Score is not a panacea’

Maarten van Ooijen, outgoing State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport: ‘The Nutri-Score is not a panacea. But it is an extremely useful tool to quickly check which product has a better composition while shopping. This is especially useful for products outside the healthy Wheel of Five. Hardly anyone reads the ingredients of, for example, all pizzas or breakfast cereals or ready-made meals. It is useful for everyone that you can now see for many of these types of messages at once which ones have a better composition. With our new public campaign we want to help people use the Nutri-Score correctly. And of course the logo remains a tool. To eat healthily, the Wheel of Five and common sense are and remain the most important.’
