When I say: ‘GoPro’, you probably think of extreme athletes who are filmed performing intense stunts. A ‘backflip 360’, hoppa, they just do that for a while. And yes, this is quite often captured with one of the GoPro cameras, but the brand emphasizes that it is also very suitable for home, garden and kitchen videos. The new GoPro HERO 12 also responds to the creation of vertical (TikTok) videos and introduces something fun for it. Let’s take a quick look at the best upgrades to this gadget…
Improved video stabilization with HyperSmooth 6.0
Gone are the days of choppy images. With HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization you get even smoother videos, even when you’re running, for example. This new version of HyperSmooth has AutoBoost, which means that the stabilization is automatically increased when necessary. GoPro says that’s without any loss of image quality.
Max Lens Mod 2.0: big, taller, widest wide angle
The GoPro HERO 12 Black comes with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 accessory, which allows you to capture even wider wide-angle images. You can capture up to 177 degrees at once in 4K resolution. What that does to the sides of your footage… we have to test that ourselves at NL News. (to be continued)
Bluetooth support, including for your AirPods
There is good news for the vloggers and storytellers among us. The HERO 12 Black supports connection via Apple AirPods and other Bluetooth devices. This means you’ll be better able to record good audio while controlling your camera remotely. No more hassle with separate microphones or wired headsets.
GP-Log and color correction with LUTs
For professional users, there is the GP-Log function, along with available Look Up Tables (LUTs) for better color correction in post-processing. This gives you more control over the final look of your videos and photos.
Wireless timecode synchronization for multi-camera editing
If you’ve ever tried to shoot with multiple cameras and sync them later in the edit, you know how tricky that can be. We know all about it, for example on the NL News Podcast… With the wireless timecode synchronization of the HERO12 Black, this should now be a thing of the past. You can synchronize multiple cameras based on timecode sync, without having to tinker for hours.
Vertical videos with Vertical Capture Mode
Social media enthusiasts will love the new Vertical Capture Mode. This allows you to capture vertical videos while the camera is mounted horizontally. You can easily do this by switching between the settings. Perfect for direct sharing on platforms with a vertical orientation, such as Instagram and TikTok.
Price and availability…
The new GoPro HERO 12 Black is now for sale, including at Bol.com, for a price of 449 euros.
