German media: Bayern Munich intervenes and fires Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann has been sacked as coach of Bayern Munich with immediate effect. German media report this. Fabrizio Romano wrote earlier in the evening that the Bundesliga superpower was seriously considering firing the 35-year-old trainer.

Bayern held internal consultations on Thursday and the knot is said to have been made by now: Nagelsmann is no longer the trainer. Der Rekordmeister even has an agreement with a successor, Romano knows. Thomas Tuchel takes over and soon signs a contract.

Nagelsmann came over from Bundesliga competitor RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021. Bayern reportedly paid an amount of more than twenty million euros to loosen him. He guided the club to the national title in his first season, but criticism has been increasing in recent months. Bayern is not as dominant as in previous years and performs erratically. Due to the defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund took over the lead last weekend.

Bayern is only one point behind. In addition, the club of Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch, Daley Blind and Noussair Mazraoui is still in the race for the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League. In the latter tournament, Manchester City is the opponent in the quarterfinals.

Tuchel has been without a club since his resignation from Chelsea in September 2022. He had won the Champions League with The Blues a year and a half earlier. The 49-year-old tactician previously worked for Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, among others.
