“Fugitive V. stayed in a car for a month”

The fugitive “Lucky”, Minh Nghia V. (49), lived in a rented van during the month that he hid from the police. De Telegraaf reported that on the basis of ‘sources surrounding the investigation’. The Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam did not want to answer questions from the newspaper.

Parking spot

The detective thinks that Lucky shot and killed his ex-mother-in-law and his ex-girlfriend Anneke on Saturday afternoon, January 21, in the parking lot at a shopping center in Zwijndrecht. The police launched a manhunt for him from that day on.

The police were able to determine that Lucky was staying near Rotterdam because he occasionally turned on his phone for a while and thus revealed location data. Detectives suspected that he must be in the Schiedam area. A police and defense unit of the Special Interventions Service (DSI) has already camped in that area in order to intervene quickly.

Recognized

Someone would have recognized Lucky on the day of his arrest in a supermarket in Schiedam and alerted the police. Not long after that, V. got stuck in his car on the Kethel Bridge in Schiedam. According to De Telegraaf sources, he looked unkempt when he was arrested. It was clear that he had slept in the car. Inside the van was a firearm with several bullets in it.

Regret

V. has let it be known through a lawyer that he regrets his act. He confessed immediately after his arrest. V. further stated that he was not on the run from the police, but that he wanted to arrange money and care for his injured ex-partner, in order to turn himself in afterwards.

On May 22, there will be a first preparatory hearing at the court in Rotterdam in the case against V..
