Fugitive man caught after chase

‘s-Hertogenbosch – On Thursday evening, the police arrested a 22-year-old man in Kempenlandstraat. A fierce chase preceded the arrest. The man was spotted because he had not complied with suspension conditions during pre-trial detention. Several police cars were damaged during the chase.

The 22-year-old man with an unknown home address was in pre-trial detention in an investigation into a bomb raid, but was released with suspension conditions pending the trial. Because he had not complied with those conditions, he was signaled because his whereabouts were unknown. The police had received information that the man was staying abroad, but might return to the Netherlands with a specific vehicle. When the car in question was captured by a traffic camera in South Limburg on Wednesday evening, that suspicion was confirmed.

Pursuit
The car was followed on its route for a longer period of time via several traffic cameras and at some point it came into view of colleagues in an unobtrusive police car. The man was given a stop sign at the Boxtel Noord exit on the A2 motorway after it was estimated that the standing position could take place there in a safe manner. However, the suspect did not stop, but he took off. What followed was a considerable chase through Sint-Michielsgestel and the surrounding area, in which the driver showed very dangerous driving behavior in order to escape the police. Among other things, he drove against traffic and at very high speeds. At one point he even drove against the mandatory direction of travel on the A2 motorway at high speed. Fortunately, the man chose to end his ghost drive at the very next turn, but his run from the police didn’t stop. He continued his flight through Den Bosch, again performing dangerous antics. Fortunately no one was injured.

Dangerous driving behaviour
Given the extremely dangerous driving behavior of the suspect and the fact that he was not afraid to run into police cars, police officers broke off the pursuit several times. Three police cars were badly damaged. Ultimately, the car was followed by the crew of the police helicopter on its route through the city. He parked his car in Kempenlandstraat and the man fled into an apartment complex. There he was arrested in the cellar boxes by an arrest team.

co-driver
During the chase, in which a large number of police units were involved, a second person appeared to be in the suspicious car. This man, a 21-year-old resident of Den Bosch, jumped out of the car during the pursuit on Gestelseweg, when it had reduced speed for a while. The man was arrested and fined because he could not identify himself. There was no other reason to keep him longer.

The arrested fugitive suspect is detained and is being transferred to a detention center.
