Hundreds of football fans welcomed the PEC players in Zwolle who had secured promotion to the premier league earlier in the evening. Even before the players bus had arrived at the stadium in Zwolle, the crowd waiting in the rain had started singing and setting off fireworks.
The bus arrived around 00:30, after which the selection and staff were cheered on a balcony. Captain Bram van Polen called on the supporters to take it hard:
PEC secured promotion last night by drawing 1-1 against Almere City FC in Almere. With this, the team of trainer Dick Schreuder returns to the premier league after one season in the first division.
The Zwollenars are not yet champions. With four games to go, PEC is three points ahead of fellow Dutchman Heracles Almelo.
