In a search for the most fascinating animals on earth, Freek Vonk has put himself in danger for the umpteenth time. During his expedition into the vast desert of Baja California, the daredevil comes into contact with an unexpected opponent.
Freek shares the bizarre experience with his followers on Instagram. “How often do I get stung here by this poisonous scorpion? Three times? Four times? I’ve lost count!” It is clear that the adventurer has no fears. “If you don’t hear from me anymore, send an ambulance to the desert,” he then jokes.
After some banter, Freek takes a more serious look at the special and very dangerous animal. For example, he explains that “This desert scorpion” uses its venom to kill prey. “This is injected through a razor-sharp spine at the end of the tail.” According to Freek, the poison can cause temporary blindness, pain and irritation in predators.
Freek’s followers, who have become accustomed to the biologist, are again perplexed. For example, someone writes: “Freek, you are really on another level.” Another follower even wrote: “Helloooo, do you want to die or something?”
