Freek Vonk is working on a drama series commissioned by the VPRO that focuses on his own youth. In the series, forty-year-old Vonk himself plays the adult Freek. His younger version is played by an actor.
In the series, produced by NL Film and Vonk’s own production house Studio Freek, the adult Freek is asked by his parents to clean out the attic. There he finds old VHS tapes. The videos show how he explores and captures nature together with his two best friends.
In each episode, the adult Freek watches such a tape and the viewer is treated to an adventure from his youth. Each time a specific animal, behavior or theme is central, reports NL Film. The provisional working title of the series is De Freek Tapes. It is still unclear when the series will be shown.
“This is not only a huge honor, but above all a wonderful opportunity to show what it is like to be different from the rest,” says Vonk about his own series.
“That you should not let your environment drive you crazy, but should just follow your own feelings and always be and remain yourself, regardless of what people think of you or say to you.”
