Straight through the wilderness, past Museumplein and on the way to Dam Square… Well-known attraction Madame Tussauds Amsterdam proudly announces its newest addition. It concerns none other than the most famous Dutch biologist: Professor Dr. Freek Vonk. After research among young kids, Freek Vonk emerged as the most requested person and now these wishes are finally becoming reality! The wax figure will be unveiled this fall.

Freek Vonk, professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, is the most famous adventurer and biologist in the Netherlands. He specializes in snake venom and snake bites. Freek has been making various television programs for years, such as Freeks Wilde Wereld (NPO Zapp, VPRO) and Freeks Jungle School (NPO Zapp, BNNVARA), in which he searches for the most special animals in the world. He is also Chief Scout of Scouting Nederland, has his own monthly magazine (Wild van Freek) and is praised for his spectacular and educational live shows. His mission is to make everyone aware of the beauty of nature and the fragility of the earth in a wonderful way.

Freek himself was very involved in the process of his own wax figure: in a three-hour session, the pose of the statue was determined, all its measurements were recorded, details were recorded and hundreds of photos were taken. Even his scars and shark bite on his arm are shown on the wax figure.

Freek’s statue will be in ‘Freeks Base Camp’, where you can go on an adventure with Freek! Besides the wax figure, there is much more to discover.

“Holy Moly!!! A wax figure? A lifelike Freek Vonk in Madame Tussauds Amsterdam? That was pretty much my first reaction when I was asked if I wanted to participate! Of course I didn’t have to think long, because what an honor to shine among so many iconic figures! I have always said that I would like to split myself into ten pieces, so that I can be in several places at the same time… The first step has now been taken! Sitting still is of course not my favorite activity, but I think the Freek in Madame Tussauds Amsterdam will have no problem with that! I can’t wait to meet this Freek ‘in real life’ this fall and who knows what adventures we can experience together…” says Freek Vonk.
