Four years in prison for theft of crypto wallet login codes

The court in Alkmaar has convicted three men for robbery and taking a man hostage to steal his cryptocurrency. The main suspect receives four years in prison, two co-suspects 42 months each.

Tie wraps

On October 1, 2021, around 7 a.m., the victim was approached in a parking lot in Hoorn by a man who pointed a firearm at his head. Then two more men appeared. One of them took his car keys and forced him to sit in the back seat.

The three men also got in and the four of them drove away. In the car they tied the victim’s wrists together with zip ties.

Login codes

At gunpoint, they forced the victim to hand over his phones. He also had to provide the login codes for his phone and for the app to manage crypto wallets.

After driving around for an hour, the men left the victim in his car in Middelie. It later turned out that almost 190,000 euros worth of cryptocurrency had disappeared. That money ended up in the wallets of the main suspect.

Fear

After the robbery, the victim returned to his native country out of fear for his safety. He was unable to work for a long time and suffered from anxiety for a long time.

The main suspect was a colleague of the victim.

The suspects stole 190,000 euros in crypto, they must pay that amount plus 10,000 euros in compensation to the victim.
