Four more arrests for disturbances around New Year’s Eve in Nieuw-Beijerland

Nieuw-Beijerland – More than two months after the disturbances around New Year’s Eve, four suspects were again arrested by the Team Parate Unit (TPE) early this morning. These are four men aged 18, 21, 22 and 23 from Nieuw-Beijerland. They are suspected of arson endangering property and persons and of public violence.

The men were arrested for an incident on December 30, in which a refrigerator – which was filled with petrol – was set on fire at the intersection of Kerkstraat and ‘s-Gravenweg around 11:15 p.m. The refrigerator exploded. The result: a large fireball, with shards of glass from the refrigerator ending up in the environment. The blow was felt by the officers who were present at the explosion. One of the flying fragments also caused a broken front door window for a local resident.

A few days later, on January 1 around 12:45 a.m., another incident occurred. Heavy fireworks were thrown into a large fire. This caused hard blows. A little later a group of young people came running with a trailer containing wood and car tires. The young people tried to push the trailer into the fire despite the presence of officers and enforcement. Rescuers managed to prevent the trailer from going up in flames. At the end of January, images of this incident were shown in Bureau Rijnmond. Following this broadcast, investigators have received several tips about the identity of the suspects. This led to the four men being arrested for this incident.
