Lichtenvoorde – The police have made four arrests after four street robberies in the Achterhoek. The incidents took place in Eibergen, Lichtenvoorde and Groenlo (2). The two main suspects are men from Lichtenvoorde aged 17 and 21. Two men aged 16 and 18 were also arrested from the same place.

It is Friday evening, April 14, around 11 p.m. when a minor boy from Neede becomes a victim. At the JW Hagemanstraat in Eibergen he is mistreated and he has to hand over his earphones and watch. Not much later, just after midnight, it hits the Nieuwmarkt in Lichtenvoorde. Here too a minor boy is the victim – this time from Lichtenvoorde – and here too the victim has to hand over his watch. In both cases, pepper spray is used.

Two cases in Groenlo

On Saturday, April 15, a minor boy from the municipality of East Gelre was the victim. At the Kerkwal in Groenlo he is assaulted and robbed of a small amount of cash. In the night from Saturday to Sunday there is a fourth incident. Now at Den Koem in Groenlo. A 20-year-old man from Groenlo is assaulted and has to hand over his wallet. If it turns out to be nothing, the perpetrators run off without any loot.

Street robberies are extremely impactful and solving them is therefore a high priority. Especially considering the many incidents in a short time and the violence that was used. Fortunately no one was seriously injured. The men aged 17 and 21 were arrested on May 30. The duo is suspected of involvement in all cases. The men aged 16 and 18 were arrested late last week. The 16-year-old suspect is said to have been involved in the latter case. The 18-year-old man in the first street robbery.

The further investigation is ongoing and the public prosecutor will make a decision about the further follow-up for the four after completion of that investigation. All information about street robberies can be found on this special theme page of the police.
