Formula 1 is moving: but not permanently

There are rumors about the broadcasting rights of Formula 1: it is said that that honor will soon belong to Ziggo, but that is not yet definitive. There is a small move: the Formula 1 broadcasts will soon not only be available on F1 TV and Viaplay. Talpa has made a deal with Viaplay, so you can watch the race this weekend on the SBS9 channel. There is a catch: you watch it with a 6 hour delay. So that means swearing off your phone for half a day.

Formula 1 on SBS9

Moreover, it is only one race that is offered ‘free’ in this way. However, the deal means more than just that one race: there will be several races this season that will be broadcast on SBS9 (which will be called Viaplay TV especially for the occasion). However, this will only be announced later. This probably also has to do with the fact that the deal does not only involve Formula 1: other sports for which Viaplay has had the broadcasting rights for some time will also receive such a mini-move to SBS9.

Of course it will continue to be shown live on Viaplay, but the matches of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and football from the English Premier League and Bundesliga will also make their debut on SBS9. The Birmingham football match can be viewed on April 11 at 8:00 PM and the Rotterdam football match (both Premier League) on April 18 at 8:00 PM. English football is also there, namely April 6 at 4:00 PM Fulham against Newcastle and April 8 at 8:30 PM Tottenham Hotspur against Nottingham Forest. These matches will be followed by Manchester City vs Luton Town on April 13 at 3:00 PM and Chelsea vs Everton on April 15 at 8:30 PM.

Also darts and football

In any case, the two TV companies can first see how things are going with the broadcast of the Formula 1 race in Japan this weekend. And not just the race on Sunday, but also the training and qualifying on Friday and Saturday. It would only be the race that is broadcast 6 hours later: namely at 1:00 PM on Sunday. This saves you having to be ready at 7:00 am, although you will have to ensure that you do not hear any news or view social media in the meantime.

Formula 1 as usual on a regular TV channel. Good news for Formula 1 fans who have a television subscription. Perhaps a little less for Viaplay subscribers, who can watch live, but also pay no less than 15.99 euros per month for the streaming service. At the end of May that will be even more: 17.99 euros. On the other hand, we don’t expect this to apply to every match now, so it may not be wise to cancel your subscription immediately.
