During a preventive search at metro station Slinge in Rotterdam-Charlois on Thursday evening, the police arrested two boys aged 16 and 17 who were in possession of a firearm. The eldest also had a knife with him.
Security risk area
Rotterdam-Charlois has been designated by the municipality of Rotterdam as a security risk area, whereby the mayor determines when and where the police may conduct a preventive body search. The aim of preventive searches is to reduce gun ownership in Rotterdam and thus improve safety.
Soft and hard drugs
In addition to the two firearms and a knife, quantities of soft and hard drugs and several hundred euros in cash were also found in the home of one of the suspects. The drugs have been destroyed and the weapons and money have been seized.
