'Feyenoord strikes again and permanently keeps rented player in Rotterdam'

Timon Wellenreuther will still be a Feyenoord player next year. 1908.nl reports this on Friday. The team from Rotterdam has reached an agreement in principle with Anderlecht about the German closing post.

Feyenoord had a purchase option in the lease with Anderlecht. He will inform the club management, so that Wellenreuther will be stuck in Rotterdam until 2025. He also gets an option for one extra year in his contract. The official announcement of Wellenreuther’s extended stay would come after the summer, when the German is back from his vacation. The goalkeeper was stuck in Belgium until the summer of 2024. With a longer stay he would have had to compete with the Dutchman Bart Verbruggen.

Wellenreuther played an important role in the past championship year of the team from Rotterdam. When Justin Bijlow got injured, the 27-year-old keeper turned out to be a reliable replacement. He stood out with crucial saves in away games against, for example, Ajax and Sparta. Wellenreuther previously played in the Netherlands for Willem II.
