There are far fewer trains running between The Hague and Rotterdam up to and including the evening rush hour due to a problem with a switch near Schiedam. After the rush hour, from 8 p.m., there will be no trains at all on part of the route due to repair work.

Last night a crack was discovered in a part at the switch, which means that it cannot be driven over at normal speed. As a result, according to rail manager ProRail, about a third of the usual number of trains is currently being used.

Staff shortage

The intention was to repair the switch during the day, but that is not possible because there are no staff available at external contractors. ProRail says that specific knowledge is required for this job and that there are also staff shortages among the contractors.

The railway manager is now having the switch repaired this evening. This means that no trains will run between Rotterdam and Delft Campus between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. The NS uses buses and advises to consult the journey planner.
