Ferrari may sacrifice ‘gap year’ 2024: ‘Work can be done in parallel on the next car’

The usually well-informed Formu1a.uno reports that Ferrari may start building the 2025 car very early. The Italian medium indicates that the design engineers in Maranello agree that the total transformation of the car by 2026 requires that eighty percent of the resources be reserved for 2025, which can already be worked on from next January with CFD (computational fluid dynamics).

In two days’ time, the Italian racing team will show the world its battle weapon for the 2024 season, but behind the scenes there has been much talk behind the scenes about the following seasons. This is due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, who will join Ferrari from 2025, but also due to the technical changes that the teams expect from 2026. In any case, the Scuderia seems to want to focus on 2025 as quickly as possible. – and 2026 season to have her affairs in order. “The design engineers agree that the total transformation of the car by 2026 requires that eighty percent of the 2025 resources be reserved for chassis 678 (chassis number for 2026, ed.),” reports Formu1a.uno.

‘They can work on this with CFD from January 2025. This year we can work in parallel to work on the next car as quickly as possible. Unless surprising things happen, the budget ceiling will not allow for the construction of a completely new chassis that can only be used for 2025. Like any other team, Ferrari will of course already be working on the car for the following year in 2024, but it is possible that the Italian racing team will choose to do this much earlier than the other racing stables. This has already raised questions on social media channels as to whether Ferrari will completely sacrifice the 2024 season in order to perform excellently with Hamilton in 2025 and go for the title.

‘SF-24 will be 95 percent different from its predecessor’

In any case, Ferrari will show what the SF-24 looks like on February 13. Drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz already received slightly different racing suits for the upcoming season. Although they were still red, but with yellow and white details, they may also be used on the 2024 livery. ‘The car will immediately go to Fiorano for a shakedown, followed by the first two hundred kilometers of filming days that the team will spend in has at its disposal’, Formu1a.uno continues. ‘The new car will be 95 percent different from its predecessor, with many technical features. We will see new aspects on the SF-24, but also some aspects derived from other teams’ cars.’
