Iwasa holds on under immense pressure from Martins, Pourchaire crashes
Ayumu Iwasa has won the Formula 2 sprint race in Jeddah. The Red Bull Racing protégé started from P4, but took over the lead early on and never relinquished it. Martins takes very dominant pole position, Verschoor falls silent
Victor Martins has taken pole position for Sunday’s Formula 2 feature race. The Frenchman was no less than seven tenths of a second faster than Oliver Bearman in his ART car. Championship leader Théo Pourchaire was third fastest. Richard Verschoor came to a halt at the start of qualifying in Jeddah and will only start in twentieth on Sunday.
Bearman fastest in truncated practice, Verschoor eighth
Oliver Bearman has finished the free practice of Formula 2 in Jeddah with the fastest time. The Ferrari protégé, driving for Prema Racing, recorded a 1:43.501 on the street circuit. This makes the Englishman almost two tenths faster than teammate Frederik Vesti, who in turn is almost one tenth faster than Alpine junior Victor Martins. Richard Verschoor finishes eighth eight tenths behind Bearman.
