FIA president in conversation with Turkish president about return to GP Turkey
Last Sunday, Turkish President Erdogan spoke with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the Turkish seaside resort of Marmaris about a possible return of the Turkish Grand Prix, the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com reports. A race already took place in Turkey between 2005 and 2011, and Formula 1 also briefly returned to Istanbul Park during the COVID years, 2020 and 2021. The FIA president was enthusiastic after the conversation with the Turkish president. “It was a pleasure to meet President Erdogan,” said Ben Sulayem. ‘Our conversations were about different topics. We have discussed the possibility of a return of Formula 1 and WRC to Turkey. Istanbul Park is a modern circuit and much loved by the drivers, while Istanbul itself is a thriving metropolis that would welcome a return of Formula 1 with open arms. President Erdogan also recognizes the importance of the economic and cultural impact that world-class motorsport, Formula 1 and WRC, has on the country.”
