Explosives at three homes in Amsterdam North



In Amsterdam-Noord there were two explosions on Sunday night between 03.15 and 03.50. One explosive failed to go off. The incidents took place at three different homes. No one was injured. A 21-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect.

The first explosion went off at 03.15 at a front door of a house on the Urkstaat. Firefighters arrived on the scene and the front door of the house was severely damaged by the explosion. About 20 minutes later it hit the Beemsterstaat where a mailbox of a house was heavily damaged.

Car fire

At 03.50 a car was on fire at the IJdoornlaan at the Waterlandplein. The fire service managed to extinguish the fire, but the car was severely damaged by the fire and completely burned out. A little further on on the Werengouw (photo) a burning object was thrown towards the front door of a residential complex. The fire was quickly extinguished, two explosives failed to go off.

Heavy fireworks

The Explosives Safety Team (TEV) and the Explosives Clearance Service Defense (EOD) came to the scene and concluded that these were probably heavy fireworks.

The Forensic Investigation has secured traces and collected evidence.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of involvement and are investigating whether there is a connection between the incidents.
