There has been another explosion in Rotterdam. It was around 1:30 am in the Spangen district at the door of a portico flat. No one was injured, but there is damage to the portico. The police are investigating.
This year there have already been more than fifty explosions at homes in the Rotterdam region. That is more than all of last year. The municipality of Rotterdam and the police have increased security in places where explosions have occurred recently. This is done, among other things, by camera surveillance.
Drug gangs
The explosions in the city are the result of feuds between rival drug gangs. According to Mayor Aboutaleb, the increase has to do with the stricter approach to drug crime in the Rotterdam ports. “So many drugs are seized that drug criminals start blaming each other for why a load has disappeared,” the mayor said last month.
Yesterday three men were arrested on suspicion of involvement in an arson and an explosion on the Crooswijkseweg, at the end of last month. The fire and the explosion were at a shop on the Crooswijkseweg. About 45 suspects have now been arrested for the excessive violence, such as explosions and shootings.
Amersfoort
In Amersfoort, the police are also investigating a house where damage was caused by an explosive. No one was injured, but the damage is significant, the police report on Twitter. The cause of the explosion is not known.
