Eight arrests after disturbances at football match SC Cambuur-SC Heerenveen

Leeuwarden – The police made eight arrests on Sunday afternoon, February 19, after the match SC Cambuur-SC Heerenveen. After the game, the atmosphere became increasingly grim. Among other things, the buses of visiting supporters and police officers were pelted and vandalism was committed in public spaces. The police will conduct an investigation.

Four men were arrested for public violence, such as throwing stones. They are detained and being interrogated. In addition, three arrests were made for wearing a face covering and one arrest for failure to comply with an order or demand. It concerns men between 17 and 39 years old from Leeuwarden, Sneek, Gytsjerk, Wergea, Goutum and the municipality of Heerenveen.

Stones at police officers, police horse injured
After the game, the atmosphere around the stadium of Cambuur turned grim. Rioters (supporters of Cambuur and Heerenveen) wanted to seek confrontation and pelted each other with stones, pieces of wood, waste containers and pieces of concrete. The mobile unit then acted to ensure that the visiting supporters’ buses were able to leave safely. However, one of the buses has a window broken.

Even after the buses had left, it remained restless around the stadium. The police were pelted with stones, among other things. Several police vehicles were also destroyed and a police horse was also injured because it was hit by a stone. There is not yet a complete overview of the damage, but a lot of destruction has been committed around the stadium. Police have launched an investigation to find those responsible.
