Axel – A car with several occupants crashed into the facade of a pet shop last night, Saturday September 16. The suspected driver from Axel has been arrested. He had drunk too much.
The emergency services were alerted around 1:10 am. At the scene they see that a car has rammed the front of the store on Buitenweg. Witnesses say there were several people in the car who fled the scene. Officers find the suspected 41-year-old driver on Singelweg. They take a breath test. This shows that he drank too much. He is taken to a hospital for a medical check-up. A blood test was also taken there to definitively determine the alcohol level in his blood. The suspect was then taken to a police station for questioning. There is significant damage to the storefront. On the advice of the fire brigade, the car has not yet been towed due to the possible risk of collapse. A construction inspector will investigate. The police are further investigating the circumstances of the accident.
