The police arrested a driver of a delivery van on the A10 in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon who had a phone in his hand while driving. Further investigation showed that the driver was transporting 324 nitrous oxide bottles. In total, this involved 648 kilos of nitrous oxide.
Officers initially fined the man 389 euros because he had a phone in his hand while driving. Because the van ‘sagged considerably through its rear axle’, the police carried out a transport check.
False statement
The driver gave a false statement about his cargo. Upon closer inspection, the man turned out to be transporting 324 nitrous oxide bottles of a total of 648 kilos.
The police write on Twitter: ‘The driver had no transport document, was not authorized to transport nitrous oxide and the load was not sufficiently secured.’
The driver has been arrested and the vehicle and cargo have been seized.
