Driver arrested after gold robbery Schiedam

Schiedam – The main suspect in the Schiedam investigation into the missing gold from a security transport car has been arrested at an airport in Germany. The suspect was handed over to the Dutch authorities. He was interrogated and brought before the examining magistrate. The man has been taken into custody and is still in custody.

On April 21, 2023 around 2 p.m., the police received a report that a security transport car with gold had not arrived at its destination. Officers went looking for the car and found it on the Nieuwe Haven in Schiedam, neatly parked in a parking bay. However, it was empty and the driver was missing.

An investigation was immediately launched and on Monday, April 24, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Amsterdam on suspicion of involvement in embezzlement. He is no longer in custody at this time, but he is still a suspect. In the further investigation, the main suspect came into the picture, a 54-year-old man from Badhoevedorp. He is the possible driver but had left the Netherlands in the meantime. This man was spotted internationally. On July 22, the suspect was recognized at passport control at an airport in Frankfurt am Mein in Germany. He was immediately arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. The suspect has now been handed over to the Dutch authorities. He was interrogated and brought before the examining magistrate. The man has been taken into custody and is still in custody. It is still unknown what happened to the gold, but the investigation is still in full swing.
