“I have become much calmer,” says singer Douwe Bob in Party. “Really much quieter.” When we ask in what area, the tough vocalist replies: “Everything. I sport a lot. I think about my body and mind. I don’t live for myself the way I used to. In the past I sometimes thought: if things don’t go my way, I can always jump off a building. Or I’ll end up under a bridge. But when you have children, you think differently.”
Has fatherhood given him some kind of awakening? Douwe Bob: “Certainly. And I have also become more aware of the finitude of things. For the first time in my life I really don’t want to get away. Not that I always wanted to die, but I did have a certain indifference to life. I always had that, but it’s not there anymore. I now feel very strongly: I must stay in this world. I have to stay, because I am a father of three children.”
