Domenicali does not see Verstappen as a reason for declining viewing figures: 'We must respect that'

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali does not think that the declining viewing figures are due to the dominance of Max Verstappen. He calls on fans to keep watching, because he sees that the teams are evenly matched and it is still exciting enough. Domenicali believes that it should be respected that Verstappen is the best driver at the moment, but perhaps someone can dethrone him soon.

Currently no one can ignore Verstappen’s statistics. The three-time world champion has been leading the World Championship since the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix, and he has only failed to win three Grands Prix in 2023. While some enjoy watching Verstappen rack up statistic after statistic, there are also people who find it boring to see him win every time. It would lead to declining viewing figures and declining interest in the premier class. Helmut Marko had already commented on that, he thought it was nonsense, because the stands were still full. Domenicali also doesn’t think people find F1 really boring at the moment.

Verstappen has won four times so far, only in Australia and not in Miami. “I don’t think there are many people who find Formula 1 boring at the moment,” the Italian told ESPN SportsCenter. ‘Races are sold out all over the world and the numbers continue to grow. The fans must continue to focus on our sport, because big things are happening. All teams are evenly matched and something can happen at any time. I advise everyone to stay with us,” advises the Formula 1 CEO. It is expected that the competition will come closer to Red Bull Racing this year and in 2025, and that the dominance of the Austrian team will be over in 2026. It remains to be seen what will happen in 2025 and 2026.

Domenicali asks for respect for Verstappen

However, the Italian himself is not bothered by the dominance of the Dutchman. “In the history of Formula 1, we have often seen periods where great drivers won for years, one after the other, but this is no reason why people are no longer interested,” Domenicali said. “If there are too many drivers winning, then you won’t be able to beat the legend,” he continues. “We have to respect that Max is the best driver so far. And maybe someone will soon come and take his place,” said the Formula 1 CEO. Whether that is the case remains to be seen. In a week’s time in Imola, Red Bull and Ferrari will introduce updates and it promises to be an exciting weekend.
