Volendam – After a football match on Friday March 17 between Volendam and Fortuna Sittard, disturbances arose around the stadium. The supporters group of Fortuna Sittard refused to enter the buses and confronted the FC Volendam supporters. After officers stood on the line to prevent escalation, the violence turned against the police. With the help of stewards, the supporters were eventually escorted onto the bus and headed home. This returned peace. Fortunately, no officers were injured. A 35-year-old man from Geleen was arrested.

One of the six buses with Fortuna Sittard supporters was damaged and was unable to continue. A replacement bus was arranged for this so that the supporters could go home.

The police are continuing to investigate the disturbances. More arrests are therefore not ruled out. Information can be shared via 0800-6070 or anonymously via 0800-7000. It is also possible to pass on information via the tip form below.
