Despite budget penalty, Red Bull has the best start to the season: ‘Could never have dreamed this’

Christian Horner felt it was crucial that Red Bull Racing start the 2023 season in a strong way, as the Austrian top team is facing reduced aerodynamic testing time due to a budget overrun penalty. Now that Red Bull has managed to get a one-two twice, Horner is overjoyed that his wish has come true.

“It was so crucial for us to get out of the blocks competitively,” the Briton told Motorsport.com. “The time reduction in the wind tunnel has been in effect since last October. We couldn’t afford to miss the target with that limited time because you could never get out of there with that handicap. The team has done a fantastic job.’

Red Bull has the best start to the season in the team’s history with the RB19. Horner did not dare to dream about that prior to this season. “We’re only two races into it, but to have two one-two finishes and be one point off the maximum score: I don’t think we could have ever dreamed that would happen in the season.”

Horner compliments Red Bull team members

Compliments to his team are therefore justified and Horner also gives them. “I think the team is operating at an incredibly high level, throughout the organization, because you don’t get a result like that from just one department doing its part. It’s all aspects. Whether it’s the aero team, the design office or the production side, or the company operational, what you see on the track is such a small percentage of who we are, and this is a testament to the work that goes on behind the scenes. ‘
