In an accident in Antwerp, one person died last night in an accident with a British bus. Eighteen people were injured. The dead is the driver of the minibus. One child was seriously injured, the other passengers are slightly injured. All the injured have been taken to hospital.

According to the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the bus contained a group of British Jews who had been visiting relatives in Antwerp. They were probably on their way back to London, and the accident happened en route to the Channel Tunnel in Calais.

The bus first hit another car and continued at high speed without stopping, the driver of that car told the police. He followed the bus, stopped when he saw police and informed them about the incident.

The police then went after the bus, which turned out not to have crashed much further. Presumably, when turning at an intersection, the driver lost control of the wheel due to the high speed, drove into a pole and ended up on its side.
