De Vries expects improvement at AlphaTauri after a tactical error during GP Bahrain

Nyck de Vries hopes that the AlphaTauri team has learned from the tactical error during the Bahrain Grand Prix. The driver believes that the team should also have brought him in during the virtual safety car period. This made it difficult for De Vries to keep a few cars behind him. With these lessons and a different type of circuit, the Dutchman hopes to achieve a better result this weekend.

After a difficult qualifying session, De Vries was already facing a difficult race at the Bahrain International Circuit. However, a better result could have been achieved, according to the driver. “I am firmly convinced that it would have been better to bring in both cars,” says De Vries at Motorsport.com. “We also have evidence that that would have been much better. But that’s how we learn every day. We form a team and made that decision together at the time.’

De Vries: ‘Haven’t seen how the car performs on other types of circuits yet’

De Vries’ debut weekend at AlphaTauri was nothing to write home about. Nevertheless, despite the lesser performance, the Dutchman tries to look ahead with a positive look. “We’ve only been to one track. We have not yet seen how our car performs on other types of tracks. Bahrain is quite a unique track when you talk about track surface and tire wear. In addition, the emphasis there is mainly on slow corners and less on the fast work.’

After a difficult season, AlphaTauri has to improve considerably to keep the lead at Red Bull Racing happy. ‘If others have made more progress than we have, then the progress we have made has not been sufficient,’ says de Vries. However, the driver does not want to draw too many conclusions yet and hopes for a better weekend in Jeddah. “It’s too early to talk about this. Let’s see how it goes this weekend.’
