A covered wagon and two horses ended up in a ditch in the Brabant village of Berlicum this afternoon. The person on the box also ended up in the water but was not injured, writes Omroep Brabant.

There were no passengers in the covered wagon. The horses were removed from the ditch with the help of the fire brigade. Firefighters had tied ropes to the animals. The fire brigade was then able to pull one of the horses aside. The other horse got stuck in the mud, became exhausted and had to be hoisted out of the water with a crane.

The horses have been picked up and are being checked by a vet. The owner of the horses told a photographer that the animals were probably startled by an agricultural vehicle that passed the covered wagon.
