“Competition looks at Red Bull with amazement, Austrian team has only one weak spot”

Red Bull Racing has managed to put the competition at a great disadvantage during the 2023 season. Only two races have been held, but the Austrian team was again superior at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This time it was Sergio Pérez who crossed the line ahead of teammate Max Verstappen. Red Bull’s one-two was therefore another great result for the team, but it is not all roses and roses for the reigning champion.

The difference between Red Bull and the rest of the grid was once again immense in Jeddah. “When Pérez and Verstappen had free rein in the race, they sometimes ran away from the rest for a second,” writes Auto, Motor und Sport. The way the team is doing is causing headaches in the competition. “Red Bull had set its car to minimum air resistance. The competition is still looking for the trick that will allow Red Bull to drive extremely low at the rear and thus increase the suction effect of the underside of the car.

“Ten millimeters here means three tenths,” continues the German medium. “But you have to be able to afford that ten millimeters.” For example, the plank under the car must not wear off more than a millimeter, the underside must not bend and the teams must prevent the cars from being porpoised. In addition, the suspension must not be so stiff that the tires lose contact with the road on bumps. “Unlike the competition, Red Bull has everything under control.”

Red Bull’s only weak spot

The Red Bull car is strong in all areas, but a negative aspect can also be found. “The miracle car only has a weak point when it comes to reliability.” Verstappen in particular again struggled with reliability problems. For example, he was unable to complete qualifying on Saturday due to a problem with his drive shaft. It didn’t go smoothly on Sunday either. “But the speed advantage is so great that the world champion was second in the race after just 25 laps – even if the safety car helped a bit.”
