During a regular inspection in the port of Rotterdam, Customs intercepted a batch of 40 kilos of cocaine at the ECT terminal on Saturday. The drugs were hidden in the hatches of the cooling engine of a reefer container with melons from Honduras.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the container was transported to the Maasvlakte via a stopover in Panama. The melons were destined for a Dutch company, but that company probably has nothing to do with the smuggling, according to the Rotterdam public prosecutor’s office.
The HARC team, a partnership of Customs, FIOD, Seaport Police and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam is further investigating the case. The drugs have since been destroyed by Customs’ Special Assistance Team (TBB).
