Chase ends in crash

Amsterdam – On March 8, 2024, around 9:45 p.m., a short-lived chase from Sarphatistraat ended in a crash in Pontanusstraat. During the chase, a police vehicle was rammed and a pedestrian with a bicycle was hit. Three suspects have been arrested. The police are investigating and are asking witnesses to come forward.

Officers stopped the driver of a car for a traffic control on Sarphatistraat near a gas station. The driver then took off at high speed. Several police units were deployed to stop the vehicle. During the chase, the vehicle rammed a police service vehicle and officers saw that a pedestrian with a bicycle was hit in the hand by the fleeing vehicle near Zeeburgerstraat. The pedestrian has not been found and has not yet spoken to police.

Crash

The vehicle crashed in Pontanusstraat after it knocked over a traffic sign and the suspect lost control. The three occupants of the car were arrested and during the arrest, officers drew their firearms and pointed them at the suspects in the vehicle. Traffic Accident Analysis (VOA) has conducted an investigation on site and will further investigate the case together with the police.

Suspects

All three suspects, aged 20 and 24, were taken to hospital for checks. The driver, a 20-year-old Amsterdam resident, is currently still in custody and will be interviewed by investigators today.
