Toto Wolff has indicated that the Mercedes team understands the mistakes made during the Grand Prix weekend in Brazil. The German racing team wants to put the difficult weekend behind them and is therefore looking forward to the challenges that the upcoming Grand Prix of Las Vegas brings. Wolff knows that it could be another difficult weekend, especially because of the different time schedule and the temperatures that the teams have to deal with.
After a very difficult weekend at Interlagos, Mercedes is focusing on the upcoming Grand Prix of Las Vegas. In the past week there has been a lot of talk within the team about the problems of the weekend in Brazil. “We have worked hard to identify the wrong turn we took with the setup,” Wolff said in the Mercedes press release. ‘We understand our mistakes and can explain our poor performance. That is important because we are aiming for second place in the championship.’
Las Vegas immediately offers the next challenge for Mercedes
Finding the right setting for the upcoming weekend will not be easy either. Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas for the first time since the 1980s and this time it will be driven on a completely different circuit. The track will therefore still have many secrets for all teams. “We have prepared as best we can with the limited information we have, and there are some unique features we can anticipate.”
The timetable will differ considerably this coming weekend. After all, qualifying will be completed at midnight local time. This obviously affects the conditions around the circuit. “Ambient and track temperatures will likely be in the single digits. Moreover, the circuit itself is unusual with many slow corners but also long straights. It will be a big challenge for all of us and we look forward to taking it on,” said Wolff.
