In the commune of Berck in northern France, ten people were injured when a car drove into a crowd. According to the authorities, it is an accident and there was no intention in the game, writes the French channel TF1. The injured include the driver of the vehicle and a 4-year-old child, who had to be treated for shock.
The emergency services turned out en masse and found four seriously injured victims on the spot. Two victims were taken by helicopter to a hospital in the nearby city of Lille.
According to local media, the driver was a 76-year-old man who was driving an automatic transmission and was using the wrong pedal. He then lost control of the wheel and drove over the sidewalk.
The French coastal town was busy at the time of the accident due to an international kite event. The festival, held last weekend and this weekend, has so far attracted thousands of visitors to Berck-sur-Mer.
