The Netherlands – The communication system C2000 faltered during the manhunt for three robbers in Rijsbergen on Thursday, should not have happened. That says sector head at the National Control Room Cooperation (LMS) Hans Rosenkamp. ‘We stand for the safety of colleagues.’
‘We have to ensure that colleagues can always be in contact with each other and with the control room, says Rosenkamp. ‘It is very understandable that the nuisance affected the colleagues involved and their sense of security. We sympathize with them.’
Cause
On Thursday evening, March 9, an LMS research team immediately started looking for the cause of the communication system malfunction, says the head of the sector. ‘The essence of the problem was in the antenna installation of a mobile antenna mast, which meant that good radio coverage was not possible. This antenna installation is currently being repaired.’
Past issues
A few years ago, the C2000 system had coverage problems in the rural area near Rijsbergen. Then a special mobile antenna mast was erected. Structural solutions are also being worked on.
Rosenkamp: ‘We stand for the safety of colleagues. You can never give a 100 percent guarantee on the functioning of a system, but we ensure that we are always available 24/7 to solve problems.’
