A man was arrested in the Zuyder Bos penitentiary in Heerhugowaard on Tuesday afternoon after allegedly taking two prisoners hostage. This is reported by the Judicial Institutions Service. Several police cars and an arrest team arrived on the scene.
No violence
Around 12:30 a report was received that a detainee was holding two other detainees in a locked room. No violence was said to have been used. The motive for the action is not clear.
Internal assistance team
The situation was over after a few hours after the institution’s internal assistance team intervened. No one was injured.
Zuyder Bos consists of five wings with ten departments (with a total of 232 places) with a standard regime. It is both a remand center and a prison.
