Big changes to SF-23: ‘Design that made the Ferrari car unique disappears in Imola’

The Ferrari team will come up with major changes for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The SF-23 is being overhauled and that means that the car of the Italian racing team will look significantly different. The aspects that made Ferrari’s car unique since the start of the new regulations will largely disappear. In addition, Frédéric Vasseur has also made some personnel changes within the team.

Ferrari had planned updates for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but these will have to wait a few more weeks until the start of the European season in Imola. This is therefore not a small update, but the concept of the car is largely overhauled. However, expectations for the rest of the season are not yet too high at the Italian racing team. “There is no hope to challenge Red Bull, but to establish itself as the second force,” writes the Italian branch of Motorsport.com.

“We knew about a new floor and we had already talked about a new rear suspension,” continues the Italian medium. The rear suspension must ensure that the SF-23 can be adjusted higher without the car losing downforce. In addition, the so-called bathtub of Ferrari will also disappear. “Not that Ferrari is going in the direction of the RB19 and the sloping sidepods, but the design that made the red car unique will not last.”

Also personnel changes at Ferrari

In addition to the car being overhauled, the team is also undergoing some changes. Team boss Vasseur has found a replacement for the departed David Sanchez, the former Head of Vehicle Performance at Ferrari. “This is an internal promotion and reportedly a trusted Italian engineer who will be working alongside Enrico Cardile and the head of aerodynamics, Diego Tondi. It will be up to them to find the keys to realize Ferrari’s potential.”
