US President Joe Biden has officially declared his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. He confirms his candidacy in a video message on Twitter.
“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were fighting for the soul of America. And we still are,” he says in the video. “This is no time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for election again.” The video also shows footage of the storming of the Capitol two years ago.
The 80-year-old Democrat is already the oldest president the United States has known. He would be 86 years old at the end of his second term. White House doctors declared him fit enough to fill the position in February.
Biden previously said he intended to run, but a formal announcement was not forthcoming.
“Let’s finish the job. I know we can do it,” Biden says in the video:

Among Democratic politicians, there are not yet any leaders who can make it difficult for Biden. Vice President Kamala Harris will again be his running mate, according to the video.
Former President Donald Trump ran for re-election in November. Whether it will be another battle between Trump and Biden remains to be seen, but Biden already seems to be attacking the former president in his video. For example, he speaks of “MAGA extremists” (Make America Great Again, Trump’s slogan in 2016), who, according to him, “determine what choices women can make about their health, ban books and tell people who they can love”.
The primaries are from February to June next year, the presidential election is on November 5 next year.
