The Spanish Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the Belgian Federal Police and the Dutch National Police, has arrested two leaders of a criminal organization.

The suspects are suspected of having imported cocaine on a large scale into Rotterdam and Antwerp. In the Netherlands and Belgium, eight house searches were carried out this week and seven people were arrested.

The case revolves around imports of cocaine with a total weight of 3,850 kilos. The identity and nationality of the main suspects has not been released.

According to the Guardia Civil, the organization consisted of Belgians and Dutch. The organization bought drugs in Brazil and then transported the drugs to ports in Belgium and the Netherlands. The shipments were made up in containers with deck cargo.

The Guardia Civil’s operation began in 2020, after the Belgian federal police and the Dutch police launched a joint investigation into an organization responsible for large shipments of cocaine.

These include 556 kilograms, which were seized in Brazil on May 13, 2020. That cocaine was hidden in a legal shipment of soy flour. On January 26, 2021, 2,300 kilograms were seized in the port of Antwerp, among a load of coffee beans. And on April 10, 2020, two other shipments of respectively 586 kilograms and 409 kilograms were seized in the port of Rotterdam.

The recipients of the containers were a Belgian company and two Dutch companies. The investigation led to the Costa del Sol and the Guardia Civil was called in in Spain.

The two suspects residing in Spain were difficult to find, the Guardia Civil said. One of the two stayed in a luxury home in an exclusive neighborhood in Marbella. The other lived in a luxury home in the city of Marbella.

Another 2.8 tons of cocaine were seized, plus three expensive cars, many telephones, computers and other documentation.
