Bas Smit (41), the husband of Nicolette van Dam (38), can work non-stop as an informal caregiver in the coming weeks. During the winter sports holiday, Nicolette tore her meniscus and cruciate ligament. The accident happened when she got stuck while exiting the elevator. Nicolette currently moves around in a wheelchair.
Take care of the family
The rest of the holiday seemed to go smoothly, until it went wrong again on the last descent. Daughter Kiki made a big fall. She will have to live with a splinted arm for the next few weeks. The care for the family falls entirely on Bas’ shoulders. That won’t be easy, because during the first day that Nicolette gets out of the running, he noticed how much she actually does within the family.
